Join Marc Blackburn for a program on Lava Beds National Monument. The Modoc people called the Klamath Basin home for thousands of years. In the nineteenth century, tensions between certain Modoc and newcomers exploded into conflict. In the fall of 1872, the US Army arrived and fought with the Modocs for the next six months. Today, Lava Beds National Monument preserves and protects key features of the Modoc homeland as well as the battlefields of 1872-73. This event is presented in partnership with the California State Library and National Parks Service.
